Environmental Tips and Facts

What can I do?

  • Reduce heat loss by closing curtains at dusk
  • Put foil behind the radiators on outside walls
  • Only use as much detergent as you need, particularly when using concentrated liquids or powders
  • Don't believe the hype! Lots of us haven't used public transport for years. Some services will have improved a great deal since you last used them - give it a whirl!
  • Make a shopping list to avoid buying things you don't need
  • Choose items with minimal packaging, with packaging that can be recycled
  • Take a cloth bag with you when you go shopping
  • Keep to the speed limit! It's safer and less polluting
  • Park in the shade if possible - the sun on a hot engine increases emissions
  • Consider public transport if you don't already
  • Compare time and cost
  • Is there an alternative with less packaging?
